# Symbols catalogue v1 — coverage, provenance and notices

Dataset version: `1`. Curated and checked on 2026-09-19 against Unicode 18.0.0.

The bundled JSON contains **241 entries**: Latin/accents/punctuation (51), Greek (50), mathematics including superscript/subscript digits (74), arrows (12), phonetic examples (18), and Mandarin/pinyin examples (36). Some characters intentionally occur in more than one learning context, such as accented vowels in Latin and pinyin. Entry count is not a count of distinct Unicode characters.

This is a useful starter selection, **not** every language, the full Greek/IPA inventory, a Mandarin dictionary, a complete mathematics editor, or a font. Han examples are selected simplified-form characters; pronunciation aliases show one common Mandarin reading, not every reading or a complete definition. Pinyin includes lowercase vowel tone marks, not automatic tone placement or pronunciation assessment. Glyph appearance and support depend on the reader's font and device.

Selection, friendly labels, aliases, categories and learning-context tags are educagents editorial additions, not official Unicode annotations or Unicode endorsement. Copy values and U+ notation retain their exact scalar sequences. They are not normalized during search, lookup or copy. In particular, precomposed `é` (`U+00E9`) and decomposed `é` (`U+0065 U+0301`) are separate entries.

Combining marks have a dotted-circle **display aid** where helpful. The dotted circle is not part of the copied value. JSON `value` is authoritative; `display` must never be used as the clipboard source.

## Optional LaTeX

LaTeX strings are a small manually curated set of conventional **math-mode** expressions, not a conversion engine or a claim of identical rendering in every TeX font. Use them inside the target application's supported math delimiters. The double integral `\iint` requires `amsmath`; double-struck sets using `\mathbb` require `amsfonts` or `amssymb`. These requirements are also tagged in the data. Other labels intentionally have no LaTeX mapping. Scripts such as `^{2}` and `_{2}` are fragments to attach to a base; roots provide an empty argument to fill. No TeX package, font or rendered glyph asset is bundled here.
